GUM DISEASES (PERIODONTOLOGY)

It is a branch of dentistry that examines the health and disease status of teeth and all surrounding tissues surrounding the tooth. When teeth and gums are not cleaned sufficiently, bacterial plaque forms on and between them.

Bacterial plaque, which is the most important cause of gum disease, combines with calcium and minerals in saliva to form tartar and calculus.

The tartar formed clings between the tooth and the gum. This increases over time and causes deeper osteoporosis and gingivitis.

The most important symptom of gingivitis is bleeding. Dark color, deformities and bad breath in the gums are the continuation of the symptoms.

Gum treatment is performed by the dentist in the first stage with ultrasonic and hand tools. If this application is not sufficient in advanced gum diseases, a “periodontal” operation is performed surgically.

If the problem is in deeper tissues and bone resorption has occurred, after the inflamed tissue is cleaned, biomaterials (bone powder, graft) are used to form bone.

Bone reconstruction and healing of the gums vary from person to person, for example, diabetes, overweight, alcohol consumption, smoking, blood diseases, cortisone use and radiotherapy applications are conditions that negatively affect gum treatments.

After all these applications, careful and meticulous oral care, brushing and cleaning of the interstices are very important for the success of the treatment.

After all these applications, careful and meticulous oral care, brushing and cleaning of the interstices are very important for the success of the treatment.

Controls for 3 – 6 months after treatment should not be neglected.
